Shirley's Grocery Getter
Project Mopar
Photos by – John Muldowney and Larry Caruso

A year ago when my husband, John and I, were out at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, NV; we had the pleasure of meeting up with Shirley Muldowney. Shirley has accomplished many great feats in the world of drag racing; 4-Time Top Fuel World Champion; and is currently setting her eyes on completing her Supercharged 1940 Plymouth. Her car is being custom-built by her son John, who is a master at working on numerous championship race cars. So, you can bet this will be one hot ride in more ways than one.
Shirley stated that "as exoitic as the car may appear, it will be a "grocery getter". Her and John are building this car like the average person could see themselves building in their garage. As we stated above, the Plymouth will be Supercharged with a two-tone paint scheme. Yes, all of you have problably guessed the color, pink.
Enjoy the build-up shots that they have shared with us so far thanks to ace camera man Larry Caruso and Shirley's son John. This will be one fun project to watch it progress along through the transformation from start to finish.
Check back often for more changes in the build-up process of Shirley's Supercharged '40 Plymouth. We can't wait to see this "Grocery Getter" completed!
On the next page is a few pictures of the beginning of the build-up process of the Plymouth. Check out the custom detail work that John is putting into his mother's '40. This will be one hot sweet ride when it is completed.
